BLESSING OF THE ARTISTS

Trinity Cathedral offers the Blessing of the Artists on Tuesday, September 25, at 5:00 p.m. The profound 45- to 50-minute liturgy is based upon the Cathedral’s Anglican heritage while being sensitive to the diversity in the arts community. After the Blessing proper, there will be an opportunity to remain for healing prayers and anointing.

Artists, you are encouraged to bring tools or symbols of your professions—an instrument, mouthpiece, reeds, drumsticks, ballet slippers, paintbrushes, camera or lens (in its case), theatrical mask, laptop computer, etc.

This is open to performers, visual artists in commercial and fine art, literary artists, students, educators, arts administrators and promoters, and those in the culinary arts.

Art and 'Tique - Call for Artists

Art & Tique originated last year when 3 art galleries opened up within one block of each other on Hatfield Street in Lawrenceville. This year it has been expanded to include live performance and music. There is still space for more artists, so take advantage of the opportunity. This was a lot of fun last year, with tables and displays set up by several local galleries, artists and even a restaurant. It seems that there were several sales during the event, so it could be well worth it.

The Associated Artists of Pittsburgh Annual

The due date for submission for the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh is coming up.

Attention Artists! The Associated Artists of Pittsburgh (AAP) is screening art for the 97th Annual Exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Art. All media are welcome. You do not have to be an AAP member to apply, all artists are welcome. Artists working in any media and living within a 150 mile radius of Pittsburgh are eligible to apply.

Digital and slide entries by August 3 and drop off for physical work is August 12. You will need a prospectus that has all of the details. You can find more information about this and past exhibits on their site. You can download the prospectus here.

The juror

Polly Apfelbaum, noted New York artist, was born in 1955 in Abington, Pennsylvania. She received a BFA from Tyler School of Art in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, and also attended SUNY at Purchase, Purchase, New York.

An artist of wide-ranging styles from Pop Art to Minimalism, Polly Abfelbaum has been exhibiting in New York since the early 1980s. Many of her installations are dyed fabric laid on the floor, wall works with strips of velvet applied to bed sheets or collages of cut-up photographs and cloth. Her subjects deal with the relativity of time, feminist issues and complexity in what appears to be simplicity.

Her early shows had works with found and fabricated objects, and in the 1990s, she began working with fabric. In 1999, her work was exhibited at Site Sante Fe in New Mexico.

FT Podcasts are inventive, engaging audio extensions of Future Tenant. They include fresh interviews with artists, curators, and local personalities, and original audio and video works.

Mother may I drink, Mother may I draw?

brillobox Drink and Draw has been going full-blast since October. The drop-in sessions have hosted models costumed from burlesque to drag. Drink and Draw will host a full day of drinkin’ and drawin’, the Mother May I Marathon, on Saturday May 5 from 1-8PM.

The models will be costumed and some props will be available for the sessions. The sessions are uninstructed, drop-in sessions. The brillobox will have paper and crayons on hand, but bring anything else that you want to work with. Water-based and dry mediums are welcome. (Sorry, no photography or oil-based mediums)

The Sacred Art Exhibition is an Annual Event in the Bloomfield Community. The arts enable contact with The Sacred on an intimate level. By creating, The Sacred is manifested by the hands and a new life is brought into existence. Selection for this exhibition requires that artists submit pieces that explore their personal interpretation of The Sacred. All interpretations, both traditional and nontraditional, are considered. This exhibition does not recognize any difference of authority between the traditions of the God-knowing and the artistic cultures that surround them. The Sacred Art Exhibition is looking forward to a successful 11th year. Come to our community and explore this intriguing cultural event!

- Traditional interpretation of The Sacred includes work that inspires devotion and self transformation with narratives chosen from the great prophets of God such as Krishna, Buddha, Christ, Moses, or Mohammed. Iconography, or the representation of holy persons or events, would be considered examples of traditional interpretations of the Sacred.
- Nontraditional interpretation of The Sacred, may include works that deal abstractly with personal reflections on the natures of truth and beauty in art and life. The rhythm of nature, the legends of ancient gods and goddesses, the human form and condition, even architecture would be considered nontraditional examples of the Sacred.

Art Inter/National is a celebration of artistic expression from all over the world. It's an exhibition that displays how the space one occupies both influences and guides the creative process. Box Heart encourages diversity in the media used to create the work, in the artists and his/her interpretation of Art Inter/National. There are no limits or boundaries, no categories or types. Box Heart is looking for expressions in art that are not only cultivated but also created because of each artist's place on this earth.

One artist will receive the Best of Show Award. This artist is awarded Box Heart Artist of the Year and receives their own Solo Exhibition in the 2008 Exhibition Year. This includes Gallery Representation for the 2009 year.

The Academy of the South Side

Starting next Sunday, March 25th, The Academy of the South Side will officially be starting the Spring, 2007 class schedule, featuring courses in Portrait Painting, Drawing, and Costumed Figure Painting.

All information on class schedules, syllabi, and pricing can be found on their website.

It looks like the Academy is trying to keep the classes small. This would be a great plce to learn some new stuff or brush up on your brush work.

CALL FOR ARTISTS - TOM MUSEUM SMALL WORKS SHOW - APRIL 2007

The Tom Museum will be holding a small works show for local artists in
April of 2007. All artists are eligible to enter one piece. All pieces
must be wall mountable and must not exceed 4"x4"x4". All works must be
dropped off in person April 5th and 6th from 11am to 3pm at The Tom
Museum. Pickup after the show will take place April 30th and May 1st
from 11am to 3pm at The Tom Museum. Space is available on a first
come, first served basis. A reception will take place Saturday, April

24 Hours of Art

Creative Treehouse to Host 24 Hours of Art

Bellevue, PA, Feb. 16^th, 2007 — Creative TreeHouse, a new artists’ collective, will host a 24-hour Creative Marathon for local artists beginning at 8pm Friday, Feb. 23^rd at 517 Lincoln Blvd., 2^nd floor in Bellevue and culminating with a free gallery show and sale open to the public at 8pm on Saturday, Feb. 24^th, complete with free appetizers, drinks and live music.

Sponsored by Burn Energy Drink and Pat Catans, the Creative Marathon will feature artists of various disciplines creating works to help raise funds for the Creative TreeHouse, a new facility in Bellevue dedicated not only to providing artists with work space, community and support but also to supplying local businesses with a new choice for all of their creative needs, including web design, graphic design, video production and photography. Doors will open at Creative TreeHouse at 8 PM on Friday, Feb 23^rd for artists to begin their work. All artwork will be available for sale, priced by the individual artists. Proceeds will be split evenly between the Creative TreeHouse and the artists. Creative Treehouse to Host 24 Hours of Art

Creative Treehouse was founded and is operated by Andy Rubacky and Jesse Hambley. Mr. Rubacky is a 31 year-old graphic designer. He and his business partner Sabatino DiBattista co-own 517521, a department store featuring new, vintage, and artist-produced products. Mr. Hambley is a 23 year-old independent photographer, designer and video editor.
